Next Course will run on 20 & 27 May 2017
The course is based on 2 eight-hour sessions. It centers on a specialised treatment that is used to control symptoms of tension, irritability, hypersensitivity, anxiety, depression and other states of functional and nervous imbalance associated with withdrawal of opiates, nicotine and alcohol and stress management.
The emphasis of the course falls on the practical application of auricular acupuncture in alcohol and drug rehabilitation – how to locate the ear points, and how to needle them. There is a theoretical lecture during the first session which covers basic anatomy of the ear, general concept of TCM and auricular therapy, health and safety issues and contraindications for auricular acupuncture.
The remainder of the course concentrates on practical work – accurately selecting, locating and needling the auricular points used in withdrawal and stress management. Developing good acupuncture technique will enable students to practice in this specialised area of auricular therapy with confidence.
Examination will be by continuous assessment. During the last session the students will perform auricular acupuncture on “real” patients (under supervision), and those who reach the satisfactory standard will be awarded a Certificate of Proficiency in Auricular Acupuncture for Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation.
Successful students will be accepted as Auricular Therapy Members of the Acupuncture Society, and will be entitled to use the initials MAcSAu after their names.
